Older homes tend to have problems with the plumbing systems hence the need to constantly keep an eye on the pipes and drains. If you do not pay close attention to any pipe problems that arise you might just get surprised to meet a costly damage.

Most homeowners tend to neglect places such as basements, crawlspaces, and utility rooms because they least expect any plumbing issues in these areas. Always check for the clues and signs below which may indicate the need for replacement or repair.

  • Tube Corrosion

One way to tell if your piping has substantial corrosion is when there are signs of flaking or dimpling. Furthermore, you may sense a high-acidic content in your water. These means the pipe tubing is corroded and needs to be replaced. Copper pipes tend to corrode when they are left idle for long periods of time.

  • Leaks

Never assume any leak however small it might look. A small leak can result in a big problem if not tackled on time. If you see mildew or mold accumulated on your bathroom wall this is a sure sign that there is a leak somewhere. You can only find molds in an environment that is moist. This environment can only be created by a leaking pipe. The presence of mildew in your shower might be as a result of a leak. However, if you see it anywhere else in your house it could mean there is some pipe problem.  These repairs can be costly for home owners and business owners alike.  Consider a business loan if you need to get things fixed immediately to keep your business open.

  • Stains

It has already been pointed out that you should always check for any signs of pipe problems. You may discover some stains underneath the sink. Stains at ceiling of a room lying below a bathroom (on the floor above) could indicate some pipe leak. Nearby walls can also give a clue in case the ceiling seems to be normal.

  • Discolored Water

As soon as you discover your sink tap is passing odd-colored water contact a plumber immediately. The discoloration could be as a result of rust within the pipe tubing. Of course this is a threat to your health and that of your family. Apart from changing the taste of water, rust also hardens the water and it becomes difficult to use with soap especially when washing clothes and dishes.
